Tony Davis - Chair
Social Enterprise Berkshire
Tony Davis is Executive Director of Social Enterprise Berkshire CIC, anchors the Berkshire Social Enterprise network, is Vice Chair of se², a member of the National Council of the Social Enterprise Coalition and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Manufacturers and Commerce. In Berkshire Tony and his team of associates stimulate the creation of and help to improve social enterprises; they also work to improve the climate for successful social entrepreneurship. Tony has led many organisations as Chair, or as Director, worked as a management consultant helping companies improve their governance, self-sufficiency and trading, worked extensively within the creative industries and done much else within and around the sector and the worlds of business. An internationally published writer and an innovator who likes to take new ideas and practices into the mainstream, Tony is always interested in helping to make a positive difference to the world, starting with the local and the specific.
Karen Byrne - HR & Strategic Partnerships
Development Trusts Association
Karen is the Regional Development Manager for the Development Trusts Association, which includes supporting members, growing new membership and lobbying others to support the movement. Karen also promotes and supports other social and community enterprise via the provision of training, advice, guidance and mentoring. Particular areas of expertise include the asset transfer agenda, start up (and pre-start up) business advice and community impact mapping. As part of her wider work within the sector, and following on from more than five years involvement with region-wide social and community enterprise support, Karen co-chaired se² for an eventful 18 months until December 2009, managing a significant evolutionary phase which included successfully negotiating for SEEDA financial support as well as the employment of the partnership's first employee. Karen has led nationally for the DTA on Training and Quality and Impact projects, and as part of this work published a user friendly introduction to community impact mapping - ‘Tell your Story!' Karen is also a fully NEF (New Economics Foundation) trained Social Return on Investment assessor, whilst other competencies held include those of NVQ assessor and a City & Guilds Profile of Achievement assessed against SFEDI business support standards. With a previous professional background within arts, venue and event management, immediately prior to working with the DTA, Karen managed a Single Regeneration Budget (SRB) community project for four years.
Jo White - Governance & Membership
Co-operatives South East
Jo is the Executive Director of Co-operative Futures, a specialist policy and support agency for co-operative and community owned enterprises working across the South East, South West and West Midlands. Founded 10 years ago Co-operative Futures has become a leading organisation in its field and Jo is the national representative of co-operative development bodies on the Board of Co-operatives UK. Jo is also the Chair of Co-operatives South East, an organisation that works to promote the common interests of co-operatives of all kinds and the development of co-operative forms of business in the South East Region.
Ed Baker - Secretary & Finance
Surrey Network for Social Enterprise
Ed Baker established SNSE, the Surrey Network for Social Enterprise in 2005 and is a founder director of the se² partnership. Following a career in corporate management Ed has spent the past 5 years supporting social enterprises within Surrey. As a qualified business advisor the focus has been across the entire spectrum, from pre-starts start-ups and established social enterprises, plus helping and guiding charities with their trading activities. Promoting trading focused solutions through the voluntary/community sector and all of the key stakeholders within Surrey. As part of se², Ed is strongly committed to supporting social enterprises across the South East and is leading a ground breaking project on Peer to Peer networks, through action learning sets, in which he plans to engage more social enterprises in this type of learning networks than has ever been achieved. Ed is also a director/board advisor on several social enterprises within Surrey, plus managing director of his own business.
Charles Bicker - Funding
Kent & Medway Social Enterprise Network
Charles is an entrepreneur with some 27 years experience of growing organisations and groups to corporate level either in leadership roles or as a strategic consultant (up to circa £25M project turnover). Charles has worked as a serial social entrepreneur for 14 years, leading or chairing well known organisations such as the iconic and award winning Blackthorn Trust (until July 2009); and is the founding Chair of Kent & Medway Social Enterprise Network, currently contracted by the Health Minister, Phil Hope, to build commissioning models between PCTs and social enterprise. Charles is that rare animal - an entrepreneur with time for academic and research interests - which he has developed as a senior member of Wolfson College, University of Cambridge; Charles has a Masters in Social Enterprise & Community Development and has published several papers in this specialised field; he also gives lectures and seminars at events, seminars and universities around the world. Charles offers strategic support in all three sectors across the world, specialising in innovation, entrepreneurship, and the management of growth, corporate level investments, structures and governance; but spends most of his time these days representing, promoting or researching social enterprise, nationally and internationally. A country-man at heart, Charles lives in an 18thC cottage high on the downs near Canterbury; and his main other interests are blue water yachting, mountain walking, yoga, and spending time in the peace and solitude of East Iceland and the brocage of Normandy.
Sue Quinn
Milton Keynes Community Enterprise
Sue set up MKCE 18 months ago after realising a gap in the market in Milton Keynes for social enterprise development. Previous to that Sue worked as a freelance consultant to the arts and heritage Third Sector. She has 25 years of experience in the charity and third sector organisations successfully raising funding through grants; ESF and LSC contracts. In her previous role she set up the training arm of a charity. Sue is a trained Social Enterprise Advisor and still runs workshops. She is volunteer director of 2 other CIC's and Chair of Trustees of the Old Bath House and Community Centre a sustainable social enterprise. Sue is a member of the MK Community Infrastructure Partnership.
