The Milton Keynes Social Enterprise Network is a network of Milton Keynes based organisations and individuals with an active interest in the development of a thriving social enterprise sector. Our aim is to put social enterprise on the agenda of the community; public and private sector by raising awareness; lobbying; advocacy and strategic intervention.
We operate mainly as a virtual network linking interested parties and circulating information. Network meetings are held on specific topics e.g. legal; accountancy; and social impact measurement. Through MKCE the network is represented on the MKCLIP (Milton Keynes Community Local Infrastructure Partnership) and on the wider MKELP (Milton Keynes Economy and Learning Partnership).
Through the networks membership of se² the network is able to feed into national agendas and consultations.
Through MKCE the network is creating a number of opportunities for engagement and awareness raising including; Meet the Buyer Events; Peer to Peer Networking; Introduction to social enterprise seminars and From Idea to Reality -setting up a social enterprise
What's the Big Idea? social enterprise awards programme for young people aged 13 - 19
At the awards held on 22nd March 2010 Busy Bees won the top prize of £1000 for their business; developing a honey and beeswax business on the school site. (see pic). Julia Charles who won investment for her own business on the BBC Dragons Den programme judges the exhibitions on the night. This year there was 100% increase in applicaitons. 10 projects were shortlisted and won £500 each. On the awards night they bid for a further £500 in a Dragons Den style event.
